Marilyn by Lush

I recently tried Lush's Marilyn hair treatment.  I have never tried a lush hair product before and I decided to go with this one since I have blonde hair.

It took almost 2 weeks to arrive which is ok. Living on an island in eastern Canada  it can take a while for things to come in the mail. Especially if we have weather and the ferries that bring the ground transportation are not running.

The first think I did was smell it. Lol I have a crazy habit of smelling all my beauty products. And it smells like tea. The main ingredient is chamomile which has brightening properties. My hair is naturally dark blonde with red undertones and I need to be careful what goes on my natural hair or it can turn reddish. So I just applied this to my my hair avoiding the roots.

It is very runny which was my only complaint about this product. The instructions said to cover in a thick coating which was difficult with it not building up and most of it falling in the sink.

I left it on for 20 minutes then washed and conditioned by hair as normal. The result was that my hair was brighter. I took some of the mousyness away from my hair and left it softer and more manageable without weighing it down.

Im not sure how often to use this product but I think I will keep using it once a month until summer. Then I may increase to 2x month. I still need to use a conditioning mask to replish my hair from all the heat styling and harsh winter weather.
If you have blonde hair I suggest trying it. Lush please make this product thicker and easier to apply-B

Concealer Conversation

Concealer is something that I use everyday. Even if I dont wear any other makeup I will apply some concealer to cover up redness around my nose or dark under eye circles. Currently in my rotation I am using: lancome effacernes waterproof long lasting undereye concealer in porcelaine 1. I just started using this last month and Im so glad that I discovered it. It lasts all day!!! And they have tones of shades so you can mix and match for your skin tone. I went a few shades lighter to counteract my dark undereye circles.  Before I was using glo.minerals oil free concealer in natural. I got this 2 years ago at my dermatologist office. I used it until it was empty and I would have repurchased it but they are no longer carrying the line. It was the first concealer that I used in years that didnt cause me breakouts but it was not long lasting even with powder ontop to set. I needed to apply 3x a day which is annoying. No that I have discovered how amazing lancome concealer is I think im going to stay with it ( I do want to try that cle du peu sometime even if its crazy expensive. Its a small price to pay for something that is important and you use everyday). Last night I purchased lancomes maquicomplet concealer in camee. So far I am really liking it.  No skim reaction and it lasted all night.
Mac prep + prime highlighter in light boost. I use this for contouring and inner corners of my eyes. Its ok. I think I need a tutorial at the mac counter to discover its true potentail. Giorgio armani master corrector in 2 is what I have been using in the summer for undereye concealer. Its too dark for the winter and im not loving the formula. I dont think I will be re purchasing this product. Another item that i use in the darkest part of my undereye area is benefits eyebright pencil. I would rather it be an easier formula to apply. The pencil is tough on that delicate area. Im on the hunt for something similar. Lastly is nars larger than life long wear eyeliner in rue Bonaparte.  I know its an eyeliner but it technically a concealer for your waterline. I prefer a nude pencil to white. Its less harsh.

Review to follow:

Holy meteorites

Gurelain meteorites- I have see  them in magazines,  on pinterest,  youtube tutorials and instagram so I decided to try them. Probably the nicest packaging I have ever seen for a makeup product and it smells delicious.  I have been using my armani powder brush and I its not picking up the pigment very well and I think im going to have to invest in a better brush for application.  I have discovered that there is a brush specifically designed for the meteorites.  Do any of you use this product? What do you use to apply? Sometimes the key in applying is what tool you use. I have armani silk foundation and I hated it. Found it went on streaky, was dry and caked. But I was using a foundation brush. When I tried it this past weekend with my beauty blender my whole perspective changed. Now its the best I have ever used!! Going to start recommending it to my friends :) I do get a healthy glow with the meteorites and I will continue to keep it in my daily routine.

Diorshow Fusion Mono Eyeshadow

When I first saw them i had to have them all! Beautiful cream eyeshadow that lasts all day. I got all 8!! http://www.dior.com/beauty/en_gb/fragrance-and-beauty/make-up-and-cosmetics-by-christian-dior-lipstick-m/eyes/eyeshadows/pr-eyeshadows-Y0148300-long-wear-professional-mirror-shine-eyeshadow.html

Unfortunately I missed the limited holiday edition- 521 Comete. So when the Spring 2014 Line came out I rushed out to to see them. There are 4-peach, lavender, brown and black. All matte (my least favourite). So i went with the pastels 721 Songe and 121 Celeste. They last all day but i have to layer some of my original shimmers to create some dimension. Im going to get the other two later this week. If theres anything left:)

I saw on temptalias blog that there is a limited edition shimmery lavender 141 Rosee. http://www.temptalia.com/dior-nocturne-rosee-fusion-mono-eyeshadows-reviews-photos-swatches. Its a Nordstrom exclusive so its looks like i will miss that one as well!! I would prefer it to the matte 121 Celeste version.

2013 Favourites

Another year has came and went. 2013 was a fun year for me with trips to Florida, New Orleans and the Dominican Republic. I also got a chance to do some shopping and try some new products. Below are my favourites from the year :)

Hunter Boots (adjustable back and fleece stockings)

I decided to give these a try and glad that i did. Not only are my feet dry the boots are cute. I tried on the originals but couldn't get them over my leg. Thankfully they come in adjustable backs!! I also got cute fleece stocking which help keep my feet nice and warm. My Burberry rain boots are more fitted and don't allow for a stocking. I keep them for Spring/fall when its warmer.

Dior Lipstick/Gloss

I have tried YSL and Chanel but never Dior. So when it was available here in St. Johns for purchase i decided to give it a go.  Its not cheep but lower in cost then other expensive brands. I like the Dior Addict best. its very sheer and more like a lip butter. The Dior Addict Extreme has a lot of pigment if your looking for a more defined look. Rouge Dior is my newest purchase. I have only worn it a couple of times but its very moisturizing. I got the shade 169 Grege a pinky/beige. Its a great everyday look. The Addict Gloss is not sticky at all. But living in a windy city i only wear my lipgloss when my hair is up. Im not a fan of lipgloss in my hair ;) (on a side note Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector is still my favourite! while it wasn't purchased in 2013 it still a favourite)

Bronzer

Every makeup tutorial these days always includes bronzer. I gave up tanning beds a few years ago and have been rocking the pale look lol but sometimes you need a little pick me up and a bit of colour on your face. I have tried so many products to be disappointed over and over. Smashbox halo, Estee Lauder, Rimmel...all made me look ORANGE. So while at my local Dior counter i tried on their version. I liked it so bought it and I wear it everyday!!! love it worth a try if your looking for something more natural. Not to mention the packaging is gorgeous and it comes with a little kabuki brush for application.

Ikea's Helmer

My makeup collection is growing and I needed to find something neat for storing it. I didn't have enough room for the Alex drawers so I went with the helmer. Its smaller so not good for someone with a ton of stuff and it is loud (opening/shutting the drawers). Overall though i really like it. It had to be put together and I tasked my husband with that job. After it was assembled I was faced with another problem. My makeup was not that organized after all-it kept moving around in there when I opened the drawers. I should have gotten the liners that went with the helmer but forgot, and i wasn't paying more in shipping for what they were worth (there is no IKEA in NL). Imagine my glee when I was at my local dollarramma and came across clear containers. I got a few to see if they fit and they DID!!! I went back and got more to fit all the drawers!! very happy with the result and by far my favourite purchase of the year!!

Burberry Scarves

So soft, classic and I love them!! Plus they go with anything

Clinique Moisture Surge-Tinted Moisturizer and CC Creme

As someone with sensitive skin I don't use foundation. Doesn't matter what it is I breakout (Armani, Urban decay, Dior, Chanel...). I also tried several BB cremes and they didn't work for me.  Oil free=clogged pores.
I have tried Clinique moisture cream and it worked really well for me so I decided to try their tinted moisturizer. LOVED it. Great for summer time. Now for the rest of the year i needed more coverage so after reading a blog post from My sweet Valentine (my-sweetvalentine.com) she recommended the CC creme. I got a sample before buying it and fell in love. Now its part of my daily routine. light, airy and light coverage. AND above all. No breakouts!!

Hand Creme

Its always recommended to I finally got some in Florida to try. AMAZING. I understand why its voted the best. The foot cream is good too.
